Kolkata gang-rape case | Security guard of law college arrested
In her police complaint, the survivor alleged that the guard saw the incident unfold but did not act, instead vacating his room for the crime at the instruction of the main accused
by Moyurie Som · The HinduThe Kolkata Police has arrested Pinaki Banerjee, the security guard who was on duty at South Calcutta Law College on Wednesday evening (June 25, 2025) when a student was allegedly gang-raped in the guard room of the college.
With this, the number of arrests in connection with the case stands at four. Mr. Banerjee, 55, is currently being interrogated by the police.
In the complaint lodged by the survivor at Kasba Police Station on Thursday (June 26, 2025), she alleged that the security guard “was helpless and did not help” despite being present and watching the situation unfold.
‘Helpless and did not help’
“I packed my things and went outside to escape and saw that they had locked the main gate, and the guard was helpless and did not help… He (the prime accused) instructed M and P (two other accused) to take me to the guard’s room and instructed the guard to sit outside. They did so,” the survivor’s police complaint read.

The survivor was allegedly sexually assaulted and tortured between 7.30 p.m. and 10.50 p.m. on Wednesday (June 25, 2025) in the guard room as two of the accused and the security personnel stood guard.
Between Thursday and Friday, Kolkata Police arrested 31-year-old Monojit Mishra (a staffer and ex-student affiliated to Trinamool’s student wing), 20-year-old Pramit Mukhopadhyay and 19-year-old Zaib Ahmed. Mr. Mukhopadhyay and Mr. Ahmed are current students of the college.
