Kesari Chapter 2, Akshay Kumar’s latest film, is off to a promising start at the box office. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the movie also stars R Madhavan, Ananya Pandey and Amit Sal.

The movie, which hit the screens on April 18, 2025, is reported to have crossed ₹29 crore within its first three days at the box office. As per Sacnilk.com, the movie, a dramatisation of advocate C Sankaran Nair’s efforts to bring out the truth behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, collected ₹11.84 crore on the third day.

Kesari Chapter 2 made ₹7.75 crore on the first day while it did ₹9.75 crore on the second day. The total collection of the film stands at Rs 29.34 crore.

The film is still behind Akshay’s previous release, Sky Force. Released on January 24, 2025, the movie had an impressive opening weekend performance, with its domestic nett figure being ₹61.75 crore.

Kesari Chapter 2 is based on the book The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, revolving around C Sankaran Nair and the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The Hindi film, a spiritual sequel to Kesari (2019), is bankrolled by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films.

In the film, Akshay Kumar essays the character of lawyer C Sankaran Nair while Madhavan plays advocate Neville McKinley. Ananya Pandey plays Dilreet Gill.

The Hindu review of the film said, “The camera captures the massacre with the intent to provoke and set the stage for an enraged Akshay. Tyagi gets so engrossed in serving his star that the storytelling goes for a toss. He makes no effort to track the backstory behind the massacre. The Rowlatt Act remains out of conversation, the fact that the British were baffled by the Hindu-Muslim unity on Ram Navami gets just a passing reference, and there is no mention of the Hunter Commission.

“If you are done with chest-thumping, check out Ram Madhvani’s recent OTT series on the subject. It is also a piece of fiction, but it feels closer to the truth.”
