SC notice to Telangana over ‘delay’ in deciding disqualification pleas of MLAs

The Supreme Court on Tuesday (March 4, 2025) issued formal notice to the State of Telangana, Legislative Assembly Speaker and other respondents including the Election Commission on a petition filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders including KT Rama Rao and Padi Koushik Reddy seeking timely action on disqualification petitions filed against 10 MLAs who shifted allegiance to the ruling Congress party in the State.

A Bench headed by Justice B.R. Gavai listed the case on March 25 as the first case on the list.

The bench sought responses of the state government, speaker’s officer, Telangana legislative assembly secretary, Election Commission of India and the defected lawmakers before the next date of hearing.
