Telangana Govt prepared to dismiss those found guilty of supplying unhygienic food to students: CM Revanth

Officials were directed to take stringent action against those deliberately spreading rumours about the quality of food and creating apprehensions

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has cautioned the district collectors against giving scope for complacency in providing healthy food in hygienic atmosphere to students of government schools, hostels and residential institutions in the State.

The Chief Minister on Thursday (November 28, 2024) expressed concern over the reports on incidents involving unhygienic food being supplied to students in spite of frequent instructions to maintain quality. He warned that the government will not tolerate officials found guilty of negligence in this regard and asserted that it is prepared to dismiss from service those found guilty of supplying unhygienic food to students.

The State witnessed a series of food poisoning cases at the State government schools. A few days ago, a 16-year-old student C. Shailaja succumbed after a food poisoning incident at Tribal Welfare Residential School in Wankidi Mandal of Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district. Besides, food poisoning was reported twice at Maganoor Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) in Narayanpet district. On Wednesday (November 27, 2024), Telangana High Court expressed serious concern in the matter of the food poisoning at the ZPHS and directed the State government furnish a report. 

Inspect schools, hostels and residential instutitions frequently

Mr. Reddy wanted the district collectors to frequently inspect schools, hostels and residential institutions and submit reports on the conditions there. The Government had taken steps like fulfilling vacant teachers’ posts and enhancing diet charges for students as part of efforts to provide quality education.

Vested interests were however trying to tarnish the Government’s image in spite of the positive decisions taken in the education sector. The Government would sternly deal with such vested interests and would taken stringent action according to law, he said. He instructed the officials to be cautious about those deliberately spreading rumours about the quality of food and creating apprehensions in the minds of parents and take stringent action against them.
