Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will address a rally for the upcoming Assembly election in Delhi on Monday. Mr. Gandhi’s ‘Jai Bheem-Jai Samvidhan’ rally in north-east Delhi’s Seelampur will be his first in the national capital since the 2024 Lok Sabha poll.

Making the announcement on Saturday, the party’s Delhi in-charge, Qazi Nizamuddin, said Mr. Gandhi’s rally will see huge participation by city dwellers.

He added, “We will fight to throw out corrupt and the incompetent AAP, save the city from devastation, and put the Capital back on the path of development.” Mr. Gandhi was touted to participate in ‘Delhi Nyay Yatra’, the party’s month-long foot march held last year across the 70 Assembly seats of the city, but did not attend it.

Sheila Dikshit’s tenure

The party’s State unit has led a campaign by contrasting the ruling Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) “unfulfilled promises” and “lack” of development works in the Capital over the past decade with the “infrastructure boom” during Sheila Dikshit’s 15-year tenure as the Chief Minister.

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal has, in his speeches, attacked the grand old party saying it “has no role to play” in Delhi’s political landscape and terming it an “alliance partner of the BJP”.

The Congress and AAP are members of the Opposition INDIA bloc and contested last year’s general election in the national capital together in a 4-3 seat-sharing arrangement against the BJP.
