The Indian Coast Guard on Thursday rescued 10 persons, including six fishermen who were stranded in an abandoned jetty, located two km off Chitrapettai village near Cuddalore.

According to a press release, as many as six fishermen from Thai Kal Thoni village in Cuddalore had ventured into the sea in private boats. The boats that were damaged due to rough weather, subsequently sank. The fishermen were stranded at an abandoned jetty belonging to Chemplast, located 2 km off the Chitrapettai village.

In addition, four workers were also stranded at the jetty and were in desperate need of evacuation. With no road access to the jetty coupled with inclement weather owing to the cyclone, the State authorities requested the help of Coast Guard for rescuing them.

The ICG Regional Headquarters (East) responded swiftly and an Advanced Light Helicopter was immediately launched from the Coast Guard Air Station in Chennai. Despite adverse weather conditions, the ALH carried out the operation and all the 10 persons stranded on the jetty were safely rescued.
