Three Greyhounds personnel killed in IED blast in Telangana’s Mulugu

by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThree personnel of Greyhounds, the anti-naxal force of Telangana police, were killed after an improvised explosive device (IED) — allegedly planted by Maoists — went off in Lankapalli forest area near Penugolu village in Telangana’s Mulugu district, bordering Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, on Thursday (May 8) morning.
The incident occurred when the Greyhounds personnel were conducting a search operation in the forest area to detect and defuse IEDs as part of stepped up vigil along the volatile inter-State border with the strife-torn Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, sources said.
However, there was no immediate confirmation of the incident from the Mulugu district police.
According to sources, the bodies of the three deceased cops are being shifted to the MGM hospital in Warangal. The top brass of the Telangana police are expected to visit the MGM hospital this evening.
Meanwhile, eight Maoists including a top leader of the CPI (Maoist) were killed in an exchange of fire with the security forces in Karregutta hills in neighbouring Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.
According to unconfirmed reports, Pulluri Prasad Rao alias Chandranna, a Central Committee member of the CPI (Maoist), was among those killed. Chandranna hails from Peddapalli district in Telangana.
