Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y. S. Sharmila met Governor S. Abdul Nazeer at Raj Bhavan here on November 27 (Wednesday) and made an appeal to him to direct the TDP-led NDA government in the State to scrap the power purchase agreements with the Adani Group and initiate a probe into the Adani bribery case.

Referring to the indictment of the Adani Group by the American authorities, she said the trail of it had reached Andhra Pradesh, involving serious allegations against the then government in a bribe case involving ₹1,750 crore. She said the US Security Exchange Commission had confirmed that Mr. Adani had personally met the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in August 2021 and drew the Governor’s attention to disparity in the pricing. “While Gujarat procured power from the Adani Group at ₹1.99 per unit, the A.P. Government approved the purchase for ₹2.49 per unit,” she pointed out.

Ms. Sharmila said silence on the part of the current government on the critical issue was disturbing. She said in the face of such a serious allegation, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was expected to make an official statement and annul the agreements with the Adani Group with immediate effect and order a probe into the bribery charges.

She said the people of the State were angry and the delay on the part of the government to “act’ against the ‘accused’ was raising fresh doubts in their minds. Seeking the Governor’s immediate intervention, she demanded constitution of a special investigation team or a task force to look into the matter and bring the culprits to book.
