In her first public appearance ahead of the Delhi Assembly election, Congress leader and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal had a habit of pinning their failures on historical figures.

“Modi blames everything on [India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal] Nehru, while Kejriwal blames everything on Modi. Both have found a way to shift the blame for their inability to provide infrastructure, jobs and better lives to the people of Delhi,” said Ms. Gandhi.

Thousands of supporters thronged the roadshow the Congress MP led in Nangloi and at her public address in Mustafabad.

Addressing Mustafabad’s voters, she said, “Every household here has two to three earning members, yet they are struggling to make ends meet. Yet, Modi talks about sheesh mahal and Kejriwal about raj mahal. Neither speaks of employment, inflation, or pollution,” she added.

Addressing the area’s women voters, the Wayanad MP said, We have been able to help families save money every month with our schemes in the States where we are in power and promise to do the same in Delhi.”

Hitting out at Mr. Modi, the Congress leader said, “If he could give gas cylinders for ₹500, why didn’t he do it before the election? He should have thought about my sisters, who have to shell out ₹1,200 for one cylinder.”

She also spoke about the development works carried out in the city during the tenure of late former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and urged the people to vote for the party that brought flyovers, Delhi Metro, and CNG buses to the national capital.
