BBC Strictly Come Dancing's viewers distracted by Pete Wicks as they say he 'deserves trophy'

Strictly Come Dancing fans were distracted by Pete Wick's outfit choice as he hit the dancefloor on Saturday night.

The show returned for its annual live show from Blackpool as the eight remaining couples performed at the resort's iconic Tower Ballroom.

However it was Pete's turn on the dancefloor - and his costume choice - that got viewers at home talking. Reality star Pete and his partner Jowita Przystal danced a cha cha to I’m Too Sexy by Right Said Fred.

Pete pretended to be a train inspector before tearing off his jacket to reveal a pink shirt and tight pink trousers. At one point he lay on top of the other dancers and later danced with his back to the audience.

He finished the routine wearing a pink fluffy jacket.

Judge Shirley Ballas called the performance “very entertaining, I don’t think I’ll forget this evening for as long as I live”, and praised the “good isolation, clean neckline”.

Motsi Mabuse told Wicks she “loved it for all the wrong reasons”, and “wished the dancing had supported it”. However Craig Revel Horwood commented: "You fought the dance, un-coordinated, behind the beat, bent leg but huge fun." The couple received 27 points were bottom of the leaderboard on the night.

Viewers at home were equally distracted by the TOWIE star's outfit and performance. @DebsGlynm wrote on X: "Hats off to Pete for being a good sport. Give him the trophy for wearing those trousers" while @amieylaureenx said: "Never thought I’d see Pete wicks dancing about in very tight pink leather trousers. We’ve really seen a new side to him."

@PrincessPjk added: "Not even Pete Wicks can get away with those trousers. Fair play though" and @teenamassam said: "Never would have imagined Pete wearing pink PVC trousers, ever. Am I wrong to say not much dancing but I loved it…"

Every year, the hit BBC One dance competition heads up north to the seaside town where the programme is broadcast live from the Tower Ballroom as the eight remaining couples perform on the legendary venue's spring floor.

This week's show also started with a performance from Pet Shop Boys, who will opened with a medley of hits as the Strictly professional dancers performed a routine.
