Police release picture of smiling man after woman raped in city centre

Police have issued a photograph of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the rape of an 18 year old woman during a night out. The incident allegedly occurred in Newcastle city centre on Saturday, April 27.

As part of a renewed appeal, authorities are urging anyone who recognises the individual to come forward and contact them via their website or by dialling 101. According to Northumbria Police, "extensive enquiries" have been conducted, and the victim continues to receive support from specially trained officers, reports the Mirror.

A force spokesperson stated: "Do you recognise this man? We are hoping to trace him as we investigate a rape in Newcastle.

"Between 1am and 1.30am the following morning, while still in the city centre, the man is reported to have raped the woman. The victim continues to be supported by specially-trained officers.

"Extensive enquiries have been carried out since the report was first made and today we have released an image of the man we would like to speak to. He was in the area at the time the rape is reported to have taken place and believe he may be able to assist with our enquiries.
