Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk suspended from boxing after controversial decision in rematch

Oleksandr Usyk defended his titles to beat Tyson Fury in their rematch by unanimous decision.

The Gypsy King couldn't avenge his defeat in May, when he suffered a similar fate, but started strong in Riyadh as he looked to stop the Ukrainian for the first time in his career.

There was similarities between the two fights, seven months apart with the 37-year-old coming on strong in the contest control of the bout. Following the fight, Daniel Dubois entered the ring to offer Usyk a rematch after the cruiserweight-turned-heavyweight controversially beat the Englishman in 2023.

Fury's promoter, Frank Warren, took umbrage with the decision from the judges after Fury was said to have won four rounds. Both the reigning champion and Fury will be forced to sit out from boxing action in the coming weeks.

After the fight, they will be ordered to rest for a minimum of seven days. The board requires both fighters to rest for three days for every round fought.

This means because the fight went the full eight rounds, they will have to rest for a minimum of 24 days. After the fight, Fury and Fury will be assessed by medical professionals to ensure they have not suffered any serious injuries.

If one of the fighters lost by technical knockout - when the referee decides a fighter cannot safely continue the match for any reason - the defeated boxer will be ordered to rest for a minimum of 30 days.

When a fighter is knocked to the ground and cannot get back to their feet before the count of ten - they will have to sit out for at least 60 days.
