by Hannah McGreevy · Manchester Evening NewsA four-part thriller starring Coronation Street legend is bound to set tongues wagging after it landed on Netflix yesterday (November 18).
The gripping revenge drama entitled Cold Call, which first aired on Channel 5 back in 2019, stars Corrie’s Sally Lindsay in the lead role of single mother June Clarke.
Sally rose to fame as Shelley Unwin in the ITV soap between 2001 and 2006, appearing in many memorable storylines and even winning the Best Actress category at the Inside Soap Awards in 2005.
Cold Call also features Taj Atwal from BBC’s Death in Paradise and Daniel Ryan, who fans might recognise from ITV’s The Bay.
In season 13 of the popular BBC show, Taj appears as Zoe Ainsworth, who confronts DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) at Catherine's bar.
Netflix viewers will undoubtedly be hooked by tense Channel 5 drama Cold Call, which has found a second home on the streaming platform.
The drama follows the story of June, who becomes the victim of a cold-call fraud which results in her losing her home.
The single mother becomes determined to find those responsible in what becomes a nail-biting revenge story, as she tries to rescue her family’s future.
Five years ago, Sally spoke to Digital Spy about how detailed" the drama felt when it came to depicting the world of scamming.
She said: "It's happening to very, very normal people all the time and we've not really seen it on screens.
"I think we're all very normal characters and I think you could see any of us in any day, in any workplace, in any shop.
"That's what the shocking thing is. This very extraordinary thing happening to these very normal people."
She went on to add: "In a way, this woman, constantly all her life, has done the right thing. She's been an amazing carer, an amazing mum. She's had nothing. No help.
“Done it herself and she thinks if I just do everything right in my life, everything will be fine, and it's not."
"So it's literally just a tipping point. She's had enough and she turns and it's amazing how she finds the inner strength to do what she does, and the darkness of how far she'll go."
Cold Call is available to stream now on Netflix.
