Newcastle United vs Man City score predicted as wingers stake claim amid red card drama

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester City will be looking to stay top of the Premier League table this weekend when they take a trip to Tyneside to face Newcastle United.

After two consecutive draws against Inter in the Champions League and Arsenal in the Premier League, City got back to winning ways midweek with a 2-1 win against Watford in the Carabao Cup third round. Pep Guardiola's side are back in Premier League action this weekend, taking on Newcastle in the early kick-off.

Last season's meeting between Newcastle and City at St. James' Park saw Guardiola's side come from 2-1 down to win 3-2, with Oscar Bobb scoring in the 91st minute to secure the three points. It's confirmed that Rodri will be out for the season with an ACL injury, while Kevin De Bruyne will also be absent for the clash against the Magpies.

So, can City pick up a big three points later today? Let's take a look.

We simulated Newcastle United vs Man City to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 25 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that the Magpies could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Kelly; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Gordon, Barnes.

We predict that City could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Ederson; Lewis, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Gundogan, Foden; Savio, Haaland, Grealish.

City started on top at St. James' Park, and they almost took the lead when Ruben Dias headed onto the crossbar just four minutes in. The early chances seemed to make the hosts nervous, and seven minutes in, Guardiola's side took the lead.

As Jack Grealish picked up possession on the left, some fantastic footwork from the Englishman saw him skip past three Newcastle challenges before laying the ball off to Erling Haaland. The striker returned the ball to Grealish who then sent a curling effort towards goal, and his strike evaded Nick Pope at full stretch to make it 1-0.

Just before half-time, City made it 2-0 when Savinho's drilled cross was flicked in at the near post by Haaland, putting Guardiola's side in a comfortable position. But, two minutes after the restart Mateo Kovacic was sent off for a dangerous challenge and moments later Anthony Gordon scored to halve the deficit and set up a nervy second-half for City.

The hosts caused all sorts of problems for City in the second half as they camped in their half, but Ederson made a few fantastic stops to deny the hosts an equaliser. Guardiola's side managed to hold out and claim a huge three points.

EA FC 25 predicted final score: Newcastle 1-2 City
