I won the Treble with Man City – I gave away my medals after moving to new club

Cole Palmer sent the medals he won with Manchester City to his mum after he joined Chelsea.

Palmer, 22, left Pep Guardiola's side with six trophies to his name, including from the Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League Treble-winning campaign. His £42.5 million departure from the Etihad Stadium was a surprise, but he has been a revelation since he joined the west Londoners.

It would have been easy for Palmer to hang his medals in full view at his home, as a constant reminder for what he achieved as part of City's dominant squad. Instead, he chose to move them to his parents' home so he can motivate himself to win more in the capital.

Discussing his unique approach to his growing list of honours in an interview with GQ Magazine, Palmer said: "I give them to my mum. I wanted to restock.

"Clear them out so I can stock up again. The feeling you get when you win...you just want it again. You don't want to stop and never get that feeling again."

Palmer was not able to give any more winners' medals to his mum last season, but he did add a Carabao Cup and, of course, European Championship runner-up medal. Palmer made his impact felt in the final of the latter by coming off the bench to score a magnificent equaliser for England against Spain.

Reflecting on the unforgettable strike, Palmer added: "It all happened so fast. Obviously, I've watched it all back, the highlights and that... but it's one of those things that happened so fast you don't really remember it."

Last year, Palmer's former team clinched their fourth successive Premier League title and beat his current side to advance to the FA Cup final, where they were ultimately outdone by Manchester United. His transfer to Chelsea fpreviously raised eyebrows considering the disparity in both clubs' positions in the pecking ordr.

Nevertheless, Palmer remains confident about his choice. Discussing his departure from City, he said: "I just knew I wasn't going to play as much as I wanted to.

"Even when I was going to England [camps] with younger age groups, you had players there who were playing in the league every week. And you're looking around thinking, I can play in the league."

Palmer has begun the season in incredible fashion. He has helped himself to seven goals and five assists in 11 Premier League appearances.
