Red, amber and yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office as Storm Éowyn is expected to batter the UK with strong wind, rain and even snow in parts of the country.

Storm Éowyn is expected to bring winds of up to 90 mph to parts of the country, picking up on Thursday night and reaching its peak on Friday.

During the day on Friday, 24 January, the whole of the UK is covered by at least one weather warning. There are eight warnings in total which is made up of one yellow snow warning in the Scottish highlands, two yellow wind warnings, one yellow rain warning, two amber wind warnings and two red wind warnings.

The Met Office categorises its weather warnings depending on the severity of the conditions. With a yellow weather warning, it is likely that the weather will cause some low level impacts, including some disruption to travel in a few places.

An amber warning means there is an increased likelihood of impacts from severe weather, and you should consider changing your plans to keep yourself and your property safe. This means there is the possibility of travel delays, road and rail closures, power cuts and the potential risk to life and property.
