Former Man United star Paul Pogba breaks silence as Juventus contract terminated
by Kieran Horn, PA Sport Staff · Manchester Evening NewsPaul Pogba has mutually agreed with Juventus to terminate his contract, the France international has confirmed. The former Manchester United star's deal with the Serie A club was originally set to run until 2026, but he will now leave on November 30 as a free agent.
Despite not disclosing his future club, the 31-year-old has been linked with a move to Inter Miami. Pogba faced a significant setback when he received a four-year doping ban, which commenced in March. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced the ban to 18 months last month, allowing him to return to play next March.
In a heartfelt statement, Pogba expressed his sentiments:“It has been a privilege to pull on the shirt of the bianconeri and to share so many special moments together.
“I cherish the memories we made. They live on.
“Even in the most difficult moments over the past year, your support was crucial and I want to thank Juve fans around the world for their compassion.
“It has been a pleasure to have experienced so many great moments with my team-mates over the years and I wish them every success in the future.
“I am looking forward to the next chapter of my career and to stepping out on the pitch with my next club.”
Juventus also released a statement regarding the departure:“Juventus Football Club and Paul Pogba announce that they have reached a mutual agreement for the termination of their contract as of 30 November, 2024.
“The club wishes Paul the very best for his professional future.”
Pogba, who clinched the World Cup with France in 2018, was handed a ban in March following a provisional suspension since September of the previous year due to testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). The CAS ruling stated that Pogba's consumption of the prohibited substance "was not intentional" and occurred as a result of mistakenly taking a supplement prescribed by a Florida-based medical doctor.
Pogba began his senior career at Manchester United before moving to Juventus in 2012 for his first stint. He secured four consecutive Serie A titles with the Italian team before making a return to United in 2016 for what was then a record-breaking transfer fee of £89 million.
The French international, boasting 91 caps for his country, made a free transfer back to Juventus in July 2022, signing a four-year contract. Pogba netted the third goal in the 2018 World Cup final, contributing to his team's 4-2 victory over Croatia in Moscow.
