Paul Pogba backed to make immediate Man United impact after next club transfer hint
by Jack Flintham · Manchester Evening NewsPaul Pogba has been backed to make a big impact for Manchester United under head coach Ruben Amorim, should he return to the club this year.
Pogba will have not played football for 18 months when his ban from professional football expires in March. Initially, the French midfielder was banned for four years after testing positive for DHEA but this was reduced on appeal after authorities were satisfied he had not taken the hormone, which can increase testosterone levels, knowingly.
Soon after the ban was reduced, Pogba reached an agreement to terminate his contract with Juventus making him a free agent. The 31-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs since then with his former United teammate Mason Greenwood urging him to join Marseille in a rare interview.
"He's a great man, professional, who has taken me under his wing," Greenwood said. "He's a top player. Any team in Europe would love to have him. If he came here it would be great." Adding to the speculation in a cryptic social media post, Pogba shared an image of himself as he overlooked a warm climate, alongside which he wrote: "Let's see what's coming..."
There is still a section of United supporters who would be keen to see the midfielder return for a third spell and among them is the Reds' former striker Louis Saha. Speaking to SpaceportSweden.com, Saha said: "If Paul Pogba is available, believe me, I would love to see him back at United at this moment in time. That’s how good he is.
"When he is fit and firing, he could go into the Manchester United squad and become one of the best players quite quickly. There are a handful of players that really excite me. Amad excites me. Neymar excites me. Pogba excites me.
"There are only a handful of players in this world that can do what Paul Pogba can do. It’s as simple as that, and that is why I would love for him to write another chapter with Manchester United."
Pogba's last spell at United ended in 2022 as injuries and inconsistent performances doomed him to being released at the end of his contract. Pogba has made 233 appearances for the club in two spells, scoring 39 goals and grabbing 48 assists in the process.
