Man United give early Brighton team news hint as Ruben Amorim faces big decisions

by · Manchester Evening News

After a quick turnaround from Thursday's last-gasp victory over Southampton, Ruben Amorim faces a number of key decisions for the Manchester United squad that will take on Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Another south coast opponent make the trip to Old Trafford, with Man United seeking to continue their unbeaten run under their new coach in 2025 - ideally adding another win to their record following Amad's heroics against the Saints just days ago.

The winger started again as one of Amorim's early favourites managing this new team, though further back on the right flank. As the match progressed he advanced further forwards, and that resulted in his 12-minute hat-trick that squashed any thought of defeat.

As a result, the 22-year-old should be the first name on the team sheet on Sunday. The opposite could be said for one player, and with good reasoning.

Against Southampton, academy talent Godwill Kukonki was named on the bench to provide cover. The 16-year-old defender is highly thought of in the Old Trafford circle, so he has been training and involved with the first-team squad on matchdays.

It seems highly unlikely Kukonki will be involved on Sunday now, as the youngster played 79 minutes of Man United Under-21s' Premier League 2 victory against Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

Instead of that opening up a hole with a lack of defensive depth, Amorim will be able to welcome Diogo Dalot back after suspension. The 25-year-old was missing vs Southampton due to the two yellow cards he picked up against Arsenal last Sunday.

And Joshua Zirkzee - impressive in his last two outings having turned a page in his Man United career - will be available as no action will be taken against his 'crude' celebrations on Thursday night.

Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount and Jonny Evans remain injured; otherwise the manager has a clean bill of health to work with.
