What the cast of The Vampire Diaries are up to now after 'nostalgic' reunion

The hit drama The Vampire Diaries may have wrapped up seven years ago, but the Mystic Falls gang continues to hold a special place in fans' hearts.

Excitement was through the roof when The Vampire Diaries cast members Kat Graham, Candice King and Nina Dobrev recently reunited at Epic Con in Georgia earlier this month.

The stars, known for their roles as Elena, Bonnie and Caroline, appeared together for the first time since starring in the eight-season supernatural series, which centres on 16-year-old Elena's romantic encounters with a vampire named Stefan Salvatore and her ensuing involvement with other mystical beings, reports the Daily Record.

Following their reunion, social media platforms were abuzz with fan reactions. One enthusiastic fan posted: "Unprecedented wave of nostalgia just hit me, I wasn't expecting to see them together" as another wrote: "OMFG HEAR ME SCREAMING. My fav girls reunite."

Many are now wondering what the cast has been up to following the end of the show.

Nina Dobrev - Elena Gilbert

Nina Dobrev, who portrayed lead character Elena Gilbert caught in a love triangle with two vampire brothers, has moved on to various acting projects. Her recent works include the 2023 action thriller The Bricklayer and the comedy Reunion, released this spring.

In 2019, she snagged the lead role in the sitcom Fam, although it was not renewed after its debut season.

Regarding her personal life, Dobrev's Olympian beau Shaun White recently popped the question, but the couple has yet to walk down the aisle.

Ian Somerhalder - Damon Salvatore

Ian Somerhalder was already a familiar face on popular TV shows when he joined The Vampire Diaries, having previously starred in J. J Abrams' Lost.

His portrayal of the bloodthirsty Damon Salvatore, with his bad-boy charm, captivated viewers. Post-series, Somerhalder launched the whiskey brand Brother's Bond Bourbon, alongside his on-screen sibling Paul Wesley.

However, the actor has largely kept a low profile in the television world. In 2019, he featured in the Netflix sci-fi series V-Wars, which was axed after just one season.

The 36-year-old remains happily married to actress Nikki Reed, whom he wed in 2015.

Paul Wesley - Stefan Salvatore

Devoted fans will already be up-to-date with Paul Wesley's activities, thanks to his active engagement with The Vampire Diaries followers on social media. Wesley portrayed the more reserved of the two brothers, who spiralled out of control in later seasons.

Since 2017, Wesley has enjoyed a diverse career, starring in the anthology thriller Tell Me A Story from 2018 to 2020. He also took on the roles of Lieutenant James T. Kirk and Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a prequel to the much-loved Star Trek franchise.

Most recently, the 42-year-old appeared in the dystopian thriller History of Evil.

Wesley tied the knot with Ines de Ramon two years post-series, but the pair divorced in February 2024.

Kat Graham - Bonnie Bennett

In the drama series, Kat Graham portrayed one of the few non-vampire characters, Bonnie Bennett, a powerful witch who often came to the group's rescue.

Following The Vampire Diaries, Graham took on roles in the Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me and the dystopian horror film How it Ends.

The 35-year-old actress has also continued her music career, releasing a new EP, The Broken Hearts Club, last month. She currently boasts over 40,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. In 2023, Graham married TV personality Bryant Wood.

Candice King - Caroline Forbes

Candice King, who played Caroline, reprised her role in CW's spin-off series The Originals. She recently appeared in the book-to-screen adaptation After We Collided and the made-for-TV movie Christmas in Tune.

While on the show, the 37-year-old was married to The Fray guitarist Joe King, but they divorced in 2022. King is currently dating fellow The Originals alum Steven Krueger.
