Ruben Amorim delivered the perfect Manchester United message - now it's over to the players

It's hard not to be impressed by Ruben Amorim.

The new Manchester United boss has an easy way about him, an engaging personality and already seems a clear and confident communicator. He's only been in the building a matter of days but the excitement at what the 39-year-old can bring to the table is palpable. He's delivered something of a new manager boost without overseeing a game.

Amorim gave a detailed club interview which was released on Friday night and spoke passionately and from the heart, touching on the history and heritage of, in his words, ' the biggest club in England.' It will surely endear him to the United fans.

Perhaps the main takeaway was his philosophy and thought process. Identity was the buzz word but when spoken by Amorim you sense it is more than corporate chatter. It his vision, his priority and his hallmark.

Erik ten Hag referenced the style we could expect under his tenure in his first press conference. We were still waiting for evidence when the Dutchman gave his last interviews in charge. You sense we won't be waiting long under Amorim.

This is a manager for who coaching is more than a profession, it is almost a pilgrimage. A journey to bring what he wants to see to the Premier League, to watch it unfold on the biggest stage at the biggest club.

But to that he will need help. Help from his players. It was telling that he referenced character when discussing formations and systems.

For all the focus on Amorim's style and shape, for it to work he needs the buy-in of a squad who have been fractured more than once under more than one manager in the post Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Ruud van Nistelrooy brought back some of the feel-good factor in his four game managerial stint and he was a man who knows full well the force that if a united Manchester United.

Amorim wants just that, he left Sporting to a heroes reception. This was a man who was loved but lost. The players couldn't work hard enough for him or do enough for him, they almost cheered him out of the city on their shoulders. United has been a different story in recent times, from Cristiano Ronaldo to Jadon Sancho there have been fall outs and headlines.

Amorim will want to fashion a unity and desire for the common cause, the badge, the club. If the players respond as surely they must, then this United has a bright future ahead.
