Prince William's favourite cup of tea is very unroyal - but perfect for the future king
The Prince of Wales is thought to reach for something strong and hearty at the start of each day as he prepares for royal duties - and caring for three energetic children.
by Gemma Strong · The MirrorPrince William might be the future king - but his choice of hot drink is surprisingly down to earth, according to an expert.
With three young children running around in the mornings before school, William and Kate certainly have a busy start to their day. And the Prince will reach for a cup of something strong and no-nonsense to keep him going, it has been revealed.
Arthur Gautier of Nio Teas, a premium brand that specialises in Japanese green teas, told Luxurious magazine: "Each royal has their go-to favourite. Tea has played a huge role in the royal family ever since Queen Victoria popularised it in the 19th century."
Arthur went on to suggest that William will reach for a cup of English Breakfast tea to kick-start his day. "I imagine that he starts the day with a hearty mug of English Breakfast while prepping for royal duties (or chasing after the kids!)" he told the publication, noting that it's the tea of choice for someone who needs energy and focus.
In contrast, it's thought that his wife Princess Kate likes her tea with a touch of sweetness - Earl Grey with honey to be exact.
Back in 2022, William lifted the lid on what he eats and drinks on an average day, writing on a nutrition sheet that he starts the morning with two eggs and wholemeal toast with butter.
He enjoys his breakfast along with a glass of apple juice and a cup of tea with milk and sugar - but admitted he was 'trying to cut down on the sugar.'
William also revealed he doesn't drink coffee, but said he has around three cups of tea each day because the kids can keep him up and he "needs more cups of tea to keep him going".
William is known to have a sweet tooth; he specially requested a chocolate biscuit cake to be served at his wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011.
And Princess Kate revealed that William couldn't stop eating their supply of Easter chocolate during a video call to schoolchildren in April 2020 during the lockdown. As the couple wished everyone a Happy Easter, William reassured them that: "There will be a lot of chocolate being eaten here, don't worry!" With a smile, Kate quickly retorted: "You keep eating it!"
It's a love he shared with his late grandmother, the Queen. Former royal chef Darren McGrady previously told the Queen that the former monarch was "absolutely a chocoholic", adding: "Anything we put on the menu that had chocolate on, she would choose, especially chocolate perfection pie."
But he noted, the Queen never was a foodie. "She always ate to live rather than live to eat. Prince Philip was the foodie. He'd want to try any new dishes all the time and got excited about new ingredients, whereas the Queen, if we had a new recipe, she'd have to look at the whole recipe before saying, 'Yes ok let's try it'. But for the most part she stuck to the same dishes week in week out."
