Morgan Rogers has agreed a new contract with Aston Villa.

The newly-capped England international has been rewarded for his progress at Villa Park with fresh terms.

It is only 11 months since the 22-year-old agreed to link up with Unai Emery following a £7m move from Middlesbrough. But he has forced his way into Villa’s first-team on a regular basis and his powerful running with the ball has caught the eye.

Emery is a big fan of the player - having spotted him during an FA Cup Third Round tie last season - and duly persuaded his bosses to sanction a move.

Rogers was called up to Lee Carsley’s final squad - after Emery pushed his claims earlier this season - and made two substitute appearances.

Villa have been offering improved terms to core team members, with Emi Martinez accepting an improved deal before the start of the season.

This is the latest in a concerted effort by the club to protect its leading talents as Emery seeks to nurture the talents that secured Villa’s first qualification in the Champions League.

Prior to making his England bow during the international break, Rogers paid tribute to Emery and thanked the Villa manager for putting his faith in him.

Speaking last week, Rogers said: "Not just me, I think any player would say that trust from a manager is the most important thing, and he (Emery) gave me that, from minute one.

"He threw me in at the deep end when people were injured last season, and gave me a chance to shine and develop, and to become the person I am now. He's always on top of me to get to that level and to maintain the level.

"When you have that person behind you, and you're on the pitch and you know that he's there for you and he's always going to push you and demand more from you, it gives you that extra motivation, and something from within to just push yourself and impress.

"He demands and pushes me every day, and so do the players. I've got players around me that push me every day to improve and get better, and consistency is the most important thing."
