Ellen Degeneres 'locked in bitter row' with UK neighbours as renovation sparks flood fears
Ellen DeGeneres' new life in the UK is said to have hit a blip with concerned locals reportedly contacting local planning enforcement officers over her proposed property work
by Jamie Roberts · The MirrorEllen DeGeneres is said to be in a row with neighbours at her £15million Cotswolds home.
The former US chat show host, 67, is reportedly in dispute over a fence and extension at the lavish property. It's alleged she has been accused of creating a flood risk while also disturbing Roman ruins. It's claimed Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi, 52, made a "technical breach" with their home improvements. However, according to reports, the pair's updates are thought to risk disturbing Roman remains on the site.
It's thought the proposed work has led to parish councillors contacting local planning enforcement officers to air their concerns.
According to Mail Online, three parish councillors said the onus is on the owner of a property to report any historic remains which are uncovered. The publication states parish council minutes reading: "Concern was expressed by residents that the hedge and wire fence could increase flood risk in the village' if rubbish was swept down and 'caught on the fence', thereby 'limiting flow across the field'."
It comes after the area dealt with floods in December. As the UK was hit by torrential rain, 80 mph winds, and severe flooding, residents were left struggling to cope with the aftermath. A local near Ellen's property told MailOnline: "The flood waters are rising by the hour. This is the worst I have seen it in years."
However, Ellen took to Instagram to share an update to confirm her 43-acre estate had not been affected when the River Thames overflowed. She wrote at the time: "P.S. for those of you concerned, our UK farmhouse did NOT flood."
It was reported that the talk show host and her former actress wife decided to move to the British countryside in November 2024 due to the election results which saw Donald Trump re-elected as US president. However, according to TMZ, Ellen and Portia had already purchased a home in Cotswolds before the election.
Ellen was a public supporter of former Vice President Kamala Harris. She had endorsed the attorney in August 2024 on her Instagram page, writing at the time: "There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come, I can’t wait for Kamala Harris to be our next president."
