The Vampire Diaries cast and their lives now from music career to A-list divorce

It's been seven years since The Vampire Diaries came to an end but fans are still obsessed with the supernatural drama - and they couldn't contain their excitement at a cast reunion

The iconic show The Vampire Diaries may have wrapped up seven years ago, but it's still holding its fans spellbound.

Excitement peaked when Kat Graham, Candice King and Nina Dobrev - Mystic Falls' much-loved Elena, Bonnie and Caroline - got back together at Epic Con in Georgia just this month.

Based on the novels by L. J. Smith, the beloved series centres around 16-year-old Elena who falls for the enigmatic Stefan Salvatore only to discover he's a vampire. This catapults her into a realm of vampires, werewolves, and witches, making for an enthralling supernatural romance.

X, previously known as Twitter, exploded with fan reactions to the recent reunion. One fan shared: "Unprecedented wave of nostalgia just hit me, I wasn't expecting to see them together", while another could barely contain their excitement, posting: "OMFG HEAR ME SCREAMING. My fav girls reunite."

But what paths have the cast walked down since we said goodbye to the series?

Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev has certainly not been idle since her turn as the central character, Elena Gilbert, caught in a tumultuous love triangle with two vampire brothers.

Post-Vampire Diaries, she has featured in an array of movies, such as the 2023 action-packed The Bricklayer and the comedy Reunion out this spring. She took the lead in the 2019 sitcom Fam, though it was short-lived, concluding after one season, reports the Daily Record.

Nina Dobrev is currently engaged to her Olympian beau Shaun White, though they haven't walked down the aisle yet.

Ian Somerhalder

Ian Somerhalder, known for his role as Damon Salvatore in the show, was already a familiar face on TV thanks to his stint on J. J Abrams' Lost. His portrayal of the bad-boy vampire won him many fans.

Post-Vampire Diaries, Somerhalder teamed up with his on-screen brother Paul Wesley to launch a whiskey brand called Brother's Bond Bourbon. He took a step back from TV and starred in Netflix's sci-fi series V-Wars in 2019, which unfortunately got axed after just one season.

The 36-year-old actor has been happily married to actress Nikki Reed since 2015.

Paul Wesley

Paul Wesley, who played Stefan Salvatore, has been keeping his fans updated about his life through social media. 

After playing the more reserved Salvatore brother who spirals out of control in later seasons, Wesley went on to star in the anthology thriller Tell Me A Story from 2018 to 2020. He also appeared in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a prequel to the iconic Star Trek franchise.

Recently, the 42-year-old actor featured in the dystopian thriller History of Evil. Wesley tied the knot with Ines de Ramon two years post the series finale, but the couple parted ways in February 2024.

Kat Graham

Kat Graham's character was one of the few non-vampires in the drama. Instead, Bonnie Bennett was a powerful witch who often ran to the rescue of the group.

After The Vampire Diaries, Graham starred in the Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me and the dystopian horror film How it Ends. The now 35-year-old has continued her music career and released a new EP, The Broken Hearts Club, last month. She currently attracts over 40,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

Graham tied the knot with TV personality Bryant Wood in 2023.

Candice King

Candice King, who played Caroline, reprised the role in CW's spin-off series The Originals. She recently featured in the book-to-screen adaptation After We Collided and the made-for-TV movie Christmas in Tune.

The 37-year-old was married to The Fray guitarist Joe King while on the show but the pair divorced in 2022. King is currently in a relationship with fellow The Originals alum Steven Krueger.
