Coronation Street announces major return for Eileen Grimshaw's exit as Sue Cleaver quits

Coronation Street fans will welcome back a familiar face who left the show 10 years ago, with them returning for Eileen Grimshaw's exit storyline very soon on the ITV soap

A huge return is looming on Coronation Street, as new details about Eileen Grimshaw's exit from the ITV soap have been revealed.

Sue Cleaver has quit the role after 25 years, and now a familiar face is heading back to Weatherfield for the storyline. Corrie have now confirmed when her exit is likely to air, and they've teased what leads to her departure too.

In an announcement with new images, it's been confirmed that Eileen's sister Julie Carp is making a comeback 10 years since she left the soap back in 2015. At the time, Julie was with existing resident Brian Packham before a sad split.

Actress Katy Cavanagh has reprised the role after 10 years, and has already begun filming her comeback storyline. It's been revealed that her debut will air February 21st.

Julie is set to surprise her sister, while she will no doubt leave her ex Brian shocked too. It's been confirmed the scenes will form part of Eileen's exit storyline with Sue's final scenes thought to be airing in late spring of this year.

So it seems Julie is only returning for the plot and won't be sticking around, and her comeback will lead to the departure of Eileen after 25 years. Few details have been given, following Sue announcing she was leaving the show for good.

Viewers will soon find out what has brought Julie back after all these years, and whether she could possibly stay beyond Eileen's exit. It's been revealed Julie is hiding a huge secret, as things are not what they initially seem.

With "huge ramifications" for Eileen ahead of her departure, there's said to be "laughter and tears" on the cards. Speaking about her big comeback, actress Katy said: "It is exciting to dust off Julie’s quirky wardrobe again and an absolute joy to step back onto the cobbles. Julie is so much fun, I’ve missed her."

Corrie boss Kate Brooks added: "We're delighted to have the inimitable Julie Carp back on the Cobbles. As the ever lovable Julie breezes back into the lives of the Grimshaws, not everything is quite as it seems, and Julie's secret sets off a chain of events that has huge ramifications for Eileen.

"Katy has slipped back into Julie's shoes with such ease that it's like she's never been away, and we can't wait for the audience to watch Julie's story unfold; a story full of love, laughter and tears."
