Ruben Amorim calls out FIVE Man Utd stars over ongoing issue - "Of course there is concern"
Manchester United have struggled for goals all season and Ruben Amorim has acknowledged it as a problem and called upon the likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes to fix it
by Samuel Meade · The MirrorRuben Amorim admits there is "a concern" over the lack of goals in his Manchester United side and has challenged his forwards to solve the issue.
The Red Devils are among the lowest scorers in the Premier League. Their haul of 13 is matched by Ipswich Town, who currently sit in the bottom three, and their problems in the final third are holding them back with a number of players misfiring.
Amorim saw Marcus Rashford score after just two minutes in his opening game at Portman Road on Sunday, but after that the Manchester outfit struggled to be a threat and their frontline players look to be struggling for confidence in front of goal.
The new manager wants to see more from the likes of Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee - who has not scored since the opening weekend of the season.
He said: "Of course there is a concern in that, but we have to improve as a team. We have quality players that can score so many goals. You could feel it in the second-half [against Ipswich], we controlled possession of the ball but we were not dangerous.
"Maybe that’s because we spent the week trying to build-up and then the rest was not there. We will try to improve as a team and then Ras [Hojlund], Josh [Zirkzee], Rash will score more goals. Even Bruno (Fernandes) has to score more goals… Amad has to be better in front of goal.
"All these guys need to improve and we can score so many goals. We need to improve as a team, it’s not about needing a new striker. These players can score more goals."
Rashford once scored 30 goals in a season when Erik ten Hag first arrived in Manchester. Hojlund and Zirkzee though need to prove themselves in the English top flight. Fernandes proved he had a huge appetite for goals when he first arrived at Old Trafford, scoring 28 in his first full season, but hasn't been as prolific since.
Alejandro Garnacho is the only man in red to have scored more than twice this term. In United's 12 league games they've drawn blanks on four occasions and only scored more than once three times - and none of those have come against teams in the top half.
