Liverpool's Champions League foe says he'd 'definitely' play for Reds after beating them
Liverpool were undone by PSV in midweek and one of the scorers in that Champions League outing was Johan Bakayoko - who is now talking up his chances of playing for the Reds
by Samuel Meade · The MirrorPSV star Johan Bakayoko scored against Liverpool in midweek - and is now talking up the possibility of playing for them.
The winger has continued to impress for the Eredivise outfit and has also showcased his talents on the Champions League stage. The Dutch side got the better of the Reds on Wednesday night as they beat a much changed team 3-2.
Bakayoko caused constant problems down his flank and took his goal impressively to put several clubs on notice. PSV have previously cashed in on their top talent and the Belgian has a price tag of around £42million.
Bakayoko had 28 goal involvements last season and has scored eight times so far in this one with Brentford also among the teams in England to have considered making a bid, but the player himself is confident he could cut it at Anfield if they came calling.
He said: "I definitely think that I can join Liverpool. We can be happy that we won against big names, but they didn’t come with the strongest team either. It’s a shame that they didn’t come with the strongest team.
"I'm in a good place. I feel the confidence of the entire club. As long as that is there, I feel good, whether I play well or badly. I would not make such a move to Saudi Arabia now, no. I would not do it."
Liverpool are well stocked in the forward department but could yet see some major changes, which may alter their need to recruit. Mohamed Salah's future continues to dominate the headlines with the Egyptian commanding the left wing position since he arrived in 2017.
The Reds, since Arne Slot's arrival, have not been overly active in the transfer market with the Dutchman insisting he's happy with the players he's got. That said, he confessed the club are making plans to bring in new faces come the summer with Bakayoko potentially putting them on notice.
He said: "I know people sometimes question this because they haven't seen us doing a lot in the transfer market in the summer and now in the winter as well. There's a reason for that - because we're happy with the squad. But I do know we're definitely working on strengthening in the summer."
