How to watch Liverpool vs Southampton and why match isn't on live TV in UK
Liverpool are closing in on the Premier League title, but UK-based fans will not be able to watch Arne Slot's Reds take on Southampton live on television on Saturday
by Kasra Moradi · The MirrorUK-based football fans who are hoping to watch Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Southampton on Saturday are set to be bitterly disappointed.
League leaders Liverpool are running away with the title this season with just 10 games left to play. Barring an unprecedented collapse, the Reds look as if they will lift the trophy for the first time since the Covid-19 struck 2019/2020 season come May.
They will be determined to continue their stellar form when they host the Saints at Anfield, having already beaten them twice away from home this season: once in the league and once in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
Bottom-of-the-table and relegation-bound Southampton, meanwhile, will be fearing the worst against Arne Slot’s juggernauts, having suffered 4-0 defeats in each of their last two fixtures against Chelsea and Brighton. Ahead of the clash, Mirror Football brings you everything you need to know about watching the match, which will not be broadcast live on UK TV.
Why isn't Liverpool vs Southampton on TV?
Saturday's showdown at Anfield is one of three 3pm kick-offs taking place in the Premier League. TNT Sports opted to show Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City in Saturday’s 12.30pm slot, while Sky will air Brentford vs Aston Villa at 5.30pm.
As such, the Liverpool fixture will not be shown thanks to a contentious blackout law. There has been a blackout on all English football matches on Saturdays between 2.45pm and 5.15pm since the 1960s, when the TV became a regular household appliance, as clubs feared that showing the fixtures would reduce match-day stadium attendances.
There are suggestions UK rules could undergo a makeover when the next TV rights deal ends in 2029. Yet, despite its unpopularity among some supporters, the 3pm rule remains in place for now, allowing leagues to designate a closed window for broadcasting. That means fans have to keep track through other means such as radio, goals shows and social media.

Premier League TV rights holders in other countries aren't held to the same blackout measures, meaning other countries are free to broadcast the Anfield fixture, provided they have the licence.
For those wishing to watch outside of the UK, the match will be shown via local Premier League TV rights holders such as Germany’s Sky Sports Premier League and France’s Canal+ Foot.
Supporters in the United States are in luck as long as they have access to NBC Sports (or Peacock), which has rights to all 380 Premier League matches this term. Meanwhile, DAZN will offer coverage in Spain, while beIN Sports Connect will give fans in Turkey, the Middle East and certain African nations the chance to watch.
Fans in the UK will have to wait until highlights are made available by Sky Sports shortly after the full-time whistle. Match of the Day, which airs at 10:30pm, will also have extended highlights on BBC One.
