Call the Midwife returns to BBC One for the third episode of the season - here is a look at the guest cast for episode three
by Katie Palmer · The MirrorCall the Midwife is back on BBC One with its third episode of the season, where Rosalind Clifford (portrayed by Natalie Quarry) faces a challenging delivery of a disabled baby. In another part of town, a gas explosion at an apartment block sends shockwaves through the community, with Joyce Highland (Renee Bailey) finding herself in the thick of it.
In the meantime, Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) leans on Trixie Aylward's (Helen George) managerial prowess during a meeting with Dr Threapwood (Timothy Harker) to discuss contract renewal with the council.
Fans can expect to see familiar faces including Linda Bassett as Phyllis Crane and Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan. Laura Main will be reprising her role as Shelagh Turner alongside Stephen McGann who plays her on-screen spouse, Patrick.
Cliff Parisi and Annabelle Apsion return as Fred and Violet Buckle, while Georgie Glen and Rebecca Gethings reprise their roles as Millicent Higgins and Sister Veronica.

Dr Threapwood - Timothy Harker
Welsh actor Timothy Harker, who began his acting career in middle age, portrays Dr Threapwood.
His first screen appearance was in the 2015 horror short I Shall Visit.
He has since featured in Peaky Blinders, Black Doves and The Agency.
PC Gibbs - Ben Simpson
Ben Simpson, who has previously appeared in Holby City, The Cazalets, The Bill and The Phoenix and the Carpet, plays PC Gibbs.
Mr Mackintosh - David Blair
David Blair, a Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate, portrays Mr Mackintosh. He's recognised for his roles as Stuart in Island and Herbert Batty in Dalziel and Pascoe.
Miss Jenkins - Lisa Coleman
Lisa Coleman, a 54 year old English actress, plays Miss Jenkins. She's known for her roles as Jude Korcanik in Casualty and Cam Lawson in The Story of Tracy Beaker.
Now, she volunteers as an occupational therapist in a psychiatric unit. Her family includes TV and film actress Charlotte Coleman, her sister, and her mother Ann Beach, also an actress.
Alf Cottered - David Troughton
Alf Cottered is brought to life by David Troughton, a 74 year old English actor celebrated for his Shakespearean stage roles. He's also known for playing Dr Bob Buzzard in A Very Peculiar Practice and Ricky Hanson in New Tricks.
His father, Patrick, and nephew, Harry Melling, are also actors.
Debbie Anderson - Alyssa Monteith
Debbie Anderson is portrayed by Alyssa Monteith, a child actress making her major role debut in Call the Midwife.
Nerys Anderson - Georgia Landers
Georgia Landers, an actress and theatre star known for Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, plays Nerys Anderson. She has also had minor roles in The Girl Before, Casualty and Press.
Don Lasley - Garmon Rhys
Garmon Rhys, recognisable as PC Ryan Davies in Hidden, plays Don Lasley.
He also starred as Patrick in Gangs of London and Dewi in Enid a Lucy.
Norma Lasley - Alexa Davies
Norma Lasley is portrayed by Alexa Davies, a 29 year old Welsh actress known for her role as Aretha in Raised by Wolves.
She also appeared as a young Rosie in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and Meg in Dead Pixels.
Call the Midwife is broadcast on Sundays on BBC One at 8pm.
