Oleksandr Usyk responds as Tyson Fury claims judges handed rival 'a Christmas gift'
Oleksandr Usyk retained his WBA, WBO and WBC heavyweight belts after a unanimous points victory over Tyson Fury, with the Gypsy King immediately lashing out over the scoring
by Chris McKenna · The MirrorOleksandr Usyk hit back at claims he lost to Tyson Fury by joking the Gypsy King’s promoter Frank Warren must be blind.
Both Fury and Warren were adamant that their man won the fight and hit out at the scoring from all three judges who gave it 116-112 in favour of the defending WBA, WBO and WBC heavyweight champion.
Fury believes he should have won both fights against the Ukrainian but has now lost two of his 37 bouts. Warren was angry with the scorecards from judges Ignacio Robles, Gerardo Martinez and Patrick Morley.
The promoter said: “One judge gave Usyk the last seven rounds. “How on earth can anyone say he never won one round out of the last 7? I'm dumbfounded at the scoring.”
While Fury said: “I thought I won that fight again. I thought I won both fights but going home with two losses on my record.
"Not much I can do about it, I can just fight my heart out and do the best I can. I’ll believe until the day I die that I won that fight. I was aggressive, on the front foot all night, landing body and head.
"I think he got a Christmas gift from the judges."
But Usyk, 37, dismissed their claims as he extended his record to 23 wins from 23 fights to retain his position as the No 1 heavyweight in the world.
The Ukrainian said: “Uncle Frank, I think blind. If Tyson says Christmas gift, OK thank you God, not Tyson, thank you my team. Listen, Frank crazy man I think. In my opinion. No problem. I win.”
Warren and Fury also scoffed at the AI judge - an innovation pushed by Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh - scoring the bout 118-112 in Usyk’s favour. The technology had no influence in outcome of the bout.
Fury said: “F*** all computers,' Fury said. 'More jobs for humans.”
