Matthew Perry’s ‘iconic’ nostalgic comedy described as a ‘secret masterpiece’ now streaming for free
A fan-favourite comedy film which fans believe could secretly be a masterpiece is now streaming on Netflix at no extra cost
by Lucas Hill-Paul · The MirrorAn iconic comedy starring Friends star Matthew Perry and Hollywood A-lister Zac Efron is now available on Netflix in the UK.
We’re, of course, talking about 17 Again, which has delighted millions of movie fans over the years since its debut in 2009.
Despite its lukewarm reception upon its release, the film has withstood the test of time and is arguably one of the most beloved teen movies of the 21st Century.
It follows down-on-his-luck and soon-to-be-divorced Mike O’Donnell (played by Perry) who gets a chance to relive his teenage years when he transforms into his 17-year-old self (Efron).
With the tragic passing of Perry last year, Friends fans have been revisiting episodes of the classic sitcom to pay tribute - but don’t miss his iconic foray into big-screen comedy now 17 Again is available for your home viewing pleasure.
A gushing review on the movie social media platform Letterboxd reads: “If you were to ask me about the 2009 comedy 17 Again starring Zac Efron, I’d probably say I like it.
“But if you were to ask me on a deeper level, I’d say it’s a masterpiece and never fails to bring a smile to my face.
“I’d say Zac Efron’s acting has always been underrated and every choice he made while filming this is top tier and I fear his comedic timing is absolutely immaculate.
“I’d say it should have been a bigger career defining moment for him and I am flabbergasted some people did not recognize his game until last year.”
“Starting the year off right.... ugh they just don't make it like this anymore,” someone else wrote.
Another said: “People probably think I'm being ironic when I say I love this movie but it's a goddamn masterpiece.”
One five-star Google review reads: “A cinematic masterpiece this was such a great movie, the plot was great. There was romance, Action, and Greatness.
