Mark Wright shares struggle after welcoming baby with Michelle Keegan in emotional update
Mark Wright made an emotional return to his Heart FM show with Olly Murs this morning, as the star opened up about becoming a dad for the first time with his wife Michelle Keegan
by Kathryn Ingate · The MirrorMark Wright was near tears on the Heart FM airwaves as he shared an emotional update on welcoming his baby, daughter Palma, with his actress wife Michelle Keegan.
Chatting to his co-host Olly Murs, Mark, who became a dad for the first time last week, admitted he was struggling with being apart from his newborn while presenting the duo's Saturday Breakfast show this morning.
Former X Factor star Olly began the conversation by saying: "I know you’re such a private person mate, and I know we have a lot of banter on the show, and we joke and stuff, but this week has been truly special for you and Michelle. Just tell me how you’re feeling right now."
Mark shared: "Mate, it’s actually hard to put it into words! I’ll start by saying it’s the biggest achievement of my life, it’s all I think about, but obviously hats go off to my wife – she’s just an absolute superhuman, superhero for bringing this baby into the world, and it makes you realise what our mums did for us, and makes me have so much more respect than I already had for what women have to go through.
"But other than that, it’s the best feeling in the world. I wake up every morning just so excited to see her face – every time I wake up I go, ‘ah she’s there’ – and that moment when I held her in my arms... it gets me emotional now thinking about it, everything else goes out the window and it’s made me realise what life is all about."
Giving his daughter a shoutout on-air, Mark sweetly added: "And my little baby Palma, I love you so much and I can’t wait to spend my life with you!"
Olly then recalled his own journey into fatherhood, after the singer and his wife Amelia had their daughter, Madison, last year. He told Mark: "You’re making me get really emotional now, because I went through all that literally 11 months ago, and it was really hard for me because I had to leave two days after the baby was born.
"I had to leave and go on tour with Take That, and I didn’t really process it at the time, and a few months later, me and Amelia were chatting, and I just sort of broke down in tears because I never got a chance to get to know this little baby."
Reassuring his friend, Mark replied: "But you was doing it all for her future," to which Olly agreed and enthused: "I’m just so excited for you guys!"
Mark went on to share an insight into why he and his wife had waited for a while to start a family after getting married back in 2015, as he focused on his presenting career and Michelle achieved her dreams in acting; starring in hit Netflix drama Fool Me Once and BBC series Ten Pound Poms.
He revealed: "Yeah, it’s a very special feeling and I can’t put it into words really. We’ve waited a little bit of time, we’ve chased our dreams and chased our careers, and now we’re here we’ve got a little baby!
"I’m in the studio, I miss her badly now, but in a couple of hours I’ll be home to her."
