Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid prediction, odds and betting offer
The Madrid Derby comes to the Champions League as hosts Real look to maintain their defence while Atleti hope to frustrate their rivals season on the European stage
by Tom Phillips · The MirrorReal Madrid are poised as favourites for Tuesday night's European Madrid derby, despite a recent slip in La Liga standings following a surprising 2-1 defeat to Real Betis. This loss halted their seven-match unbeaten streak across all competitions and widened the gap between them and league leaders Barcelona to three points.
As reigning European champions, Real Madrid boast an impressive home record at the Santiago Bernabeu, having secured victories in 10 of their 12 league fixtures there this season. They have also triumphed in eight of their last nine home matches across all competitions, with Atletico Madrid being the only team to avoid defeat during this run.
Atletico Madrid head into the derby with renewed confidence after a narrow 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. They have climbed to second place in La Liga, surpassing their city rivals and trailing Barcelona by just one point as they pursue their first league title in four years.
Diego Simeone's squad has been formidable, losing only one of their last 26 matches across all competitions. Their away form is solid too, with just one defeat in their last 14 games on the road, although they've managed only two wins in their recent five away fixtures.
The rivalry between these two teams has been intensely competitive, with seven of their last eight encounters ending in draws over 90 minutes. The last three meetings have all concluded with a 1-1 scoreline, including both league clashes earlier this season.
