BREAKING: Rangers fan dies in Istanbul ahead of Europa League fixture vs Fenerbahce

Rangers face Fenerbahce away from home in the Europa League last 16 on Thursday and the Scottish club have confirmed the passing of a supporter from a 'road traffic accident'

Rangers have announced that a fan has died in Instanbul ahead of their Europa League match against Fenerbahce.

The Scottish club have made the trip to Turkey ahead of Thursday's 5:45pm kick-off. On the morning of the round-of-16 first leg, Rangers issued a statement confirming the sad news.

It read: "We are devastated to have learned of the passing of one of our supporters in a road traffic accident overnight in Istanbul. The immediate thoughts of everyone at the club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. We are remaining in constant contact with both the Turkish and British authorities over this tragic incident."
