Gene Hackman's wife Betsy's internet search history days before death revealed
Gene Hackman's wife, Betsy Arakawa, searched the internet for information on flu-like symptoms just days before she died from a rare rodent-borne disease at her New Mexico home
by Jamie Roberts · The MirrorGene Hackman's wife's alarming internet search history days before her death revealed she looked up her symptoms. It has been revealed Betsy Arakawa was looking for breathing techniques in the days leading up to her death.
She died in February of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a week before her husband. The rare, rodent-borne disease that killed Betsy can have a range of symptoms, including flu-like illness, headaches, dizziness and severe respiratory distress. Betsy and Gene's deaths left fans completely gobsmacked when both were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Now, a review of the open bookmarks on her computer on February 8 and the morning of February 12 has shown her history. It shows how she was actively researching medical conditions related to COVID-19 and flu-like symptoms.
A health assessment carried out by the New Mexico Department of Public Health a week after the bodies were discovered found dead rodents and their nests in 'eight detached outbuildings' on the Hackman property. It's said this made their $4million property a 'breeding ground' for the deadly hantavirus, according to TMZ.
Typically, the lethal hantavirus is spread through rodent urine and droppings that someone later comes into contact with. Droppings were discovered in three garages, two casitas, and three sheds at Gene and Betsy's huge property.
According to the American publication, inspectors found a live rodent, a dead rodent and a rodent nest in three additional garages. The health assessment was carried out to ensure the safety of first responders or others who might visit the property from the virus.
During a press conference in March, Dr Heather Jarrell, chief medical examiner for New Mexico, explained it was "reasonable to conclude" that Betsy died of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome on February 11 at the couple’s home in Santa Fe.
Hollywood icon Gene is thought to have died a week later on February 18 of "hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer’s disease as a significant contributory factor", according to the expert.
