Truth behind Tess Daly's new look as BBC Strictly fans work out what's so different
Fans have been theorising all season that Strictly Come Dancing's Tess Daly is looking different to last season, now they have finally worked out what the host is doing differently
by Lillie Rohan · The MirrorStrictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly has captivated fans this season with her charming looks, and now they've finally found out what she's doing differently.
The 55-year-old television star is back for another season of ballroom fun, but while the routines and weekly eliminations should be enough to hold fans' attention, they can't help but notice Tess has undergone a bit of a transformation. What exactly does that transformation entail? They haven't been able to work it out until now.
Tess, who has helmed the show since it first began in 2004, has always waltzed on stage with her good looks and fun persona, but something this season has made her stand out from the rest, and it seems to be thanks to her new stylist, Laury Smith, who also works with Nicole Scherzinger and Alesha Dixon.
After working with James Yardley for many years and receiving criticism for her edgier looks, including a pair of black faux leather John Lewis trousers and a purple Galvan London dress, the former model recently began working with Laury, who has a much more elegant approach to dressing the star.
Her most recent looks have included a strapless red dress, a sweet pink strapless two-piece set and a fun blue snake print dress, all of which have received positive comments from fans. One wrote under her recent post: "Wow, such a stunning woman, red is your colour!" Another added, "Wow, Tess, love this dress." Another commented, "Your style is fab this season from head to toe."
In addition to her new contemporary style, however, there is something else fans speculate she has changed, and a trained medical professional has more or less confirmed it. Speaking to Belle magazine, reconstructive dentist De Sahil Patel responded to fan speculation that Tess has had something done to her teeth.
Tess has not publicly confirmed any specific cosmetic dental procedures, but based on her bright and well-aligned smile, she may have undergone some cosmetic dental treatments, such as teeth whitening, veneers or composite bonding," he said.
The news outlet's fashion and beauty editor, Amber Graafland, agreed and speculated that Tess may have had less permanent changes made, including "new blonder locks", deeper spray tans and potentially even "teeth whitening" as her teeth look white than usual.
Tess's television career was almost written in the stars after a friend encouraged her to attend a red carpet event in New York and interview celebrities as they walked the carpet. Following her pal's advice, she purchased a video camera and went on to interview the late Quentin Crisp, who immediately became a good friend of hers.
Once she got a few more red carpet events under her belt, she sent a show reel to Channel 4, who didn't waste any time in hiring the star to host their show, Find Me A Model. From there, the star has gone from strength to strength, hosting multiple shows, including Home On Their Own.
As for her personal life, Tess has been married to television presenter Vernon Ka y, and the pair share two daughters, Phoebe, 20 and Amber, 15, together. While they rarely mix business with pleasure, Vernon was recently spotted supporting Tess in the Strictly crowd.
