'I'm constantly being linked to Arsenal - this is how I really feel about transfer rumour'
Mikel Arteta's Arsenal may need to dip into the January transfer market to revive their Premier League title ambitions - and one frequent target has had his say on the speculation
by Tom Sunderland · The MirrorAs rumours begin to swirl ahead of the winter transfer window, Arsenal target Alexander Isak has reiterated he's happy at Newcastle for the time being.
The Sweden striker is once again being touted for a move to the Emirates Stadium in 2025. Isak, 25, was fiercely linked with the Gunners this past summer, but Mikel Arteta's side ultimately opted against signing a new forward.
Arsenal have perhaps come to regret that decision after lacking a certain bite this term, heading into the international break sat fourth in the Premier League. And as speculation continues to attach Isak with the north London giants, the Magpies marvel lifted the lid on how he feels about the rumours.
"Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season," he told Swedish media. "There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me.
"I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that. I have no thoughts about anything else.
“The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out. Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing.”
What is true is that Isak's current contract is due to expire in 2028 as pressure begins to build regarding a potential exit. Manager Eddie Howe confirmed as much in October when he said the Swede's commitments was "not a clear cut situation" as things stand.
Isak is understood to be desperate to play Champions League football but believes he can fulfill that ambition with Newcastle, who currently sit in eighth just one point off fourth place.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Real Sociedad sensation ended last season with a career-best 25 goals across all competitions. He boasts a similar strike rate with five finishes in 11 outings so far this term, but only after netting in three consecutive games against Arsenal, Chelsea and high-flying Nottingham Forest.
Isak isn't the only Swede linked with a move to the Emirates of late, with international team-mate Viktor Gyokeres also the subject of rumours. The Sporting CP frontman continues to rack up ridiculous figures in Lisbon, but it's suggested Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Liverpool could also be in for his services.
Newcastle fans will be overjoyed to Isak has too much respect for the club to go gossiping about his future mid-season. Howe will undoubtedly be desperate to keep hold of arguably one of the most valuable assets at St. James' Park, while Isak does his bit to distance himself from any imminent exit.
