Death in Paradise has confirmed the comeback of several characters with a sneak peek at Ralf Little's successor.

Don Gilet is set to take on the role of the show's new lead detective, DI Mervin Wilson, making his first appearance in the Christmas special.

The description for the new detective's entrance states: "Making his much-anticipated debut in the feature-length Death in Paradise Christmas special later this year, before a brand-new series in 2025, Mervin arrives on the idyllic isle of Saint Marie from his home in London.

"While assisting with a case following a short trip, the team discovers Mervin may have an ulterior motive for being on the island.."

In one snapshot, Don is seen standing by the sea dressed in beige trousers, a blue shirt, and a hat. Another image offers a close-up view of the new DI standing in front of the police jeep by the station, reports the Express.

Expressing his excitement about his new role, Don stated: "I am delighted to have returned to the wonderful island of Guadeloupe and this time to be stepping into the well-worn shoes of the Detective Inspector.

"It's been a real pleasure filming such a beloved series alongside the hardworking cast and crew. I can't wait for the fans to see how DI Mervin Wilson fares on the island, how he fits within the Saint Marie police team, and what secrets may unfold.."

The Christmas special and upcoming series of Death in Paradise has finished shooting in picturesque Guadeloupe. The show's favourites, Don Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, and Elizabeth Bourgine, are set to return.

In a twist that will delight fans, the BBC has announced that despite doubts, Danny John-Jules is set to reprise his role as Dwayne Myers.

Ralf Little opened up earlier this year about his departure from the tropical detective series. In a heartfelt statement, he confirmed his exit and thanked everyone for the experience, saying, "My time on Saint Marie has come to an end—what an end! "

"New adventures await Neville, and he got to sail away into the sunset with his best friend. Who knows what happens for them next! " (sic).
