What happens when stars quit a Bushtucker Trial on ITV's I'm A Celebrity? Rules explained
I'm A Celebrity 2024 is back with the Bushtucker Trials underway, with many ITV viewers predicting chaos ahead - but what happens if someone quits during a challenge?
by Charlotte Tutton · The MirrorWe've already had some eventful Bushtucker Trials on I'm A Celebrity 2024, following its return just days ago.
With the new line-up adjusting to camp life in the jungle, some have already had to face their fears in challenges. From jumping out of helicopters to having to trek to camp, some of the more grim tasks have seen the stars faced with spiders, critters and the rest.
Danny Jones and Barry McGuigan were first up for an official trial on day one as chosen by two of their campmates. They were greeted by snakes as they battled for stars for camp, and on day two it was a tearful GK Barry who had to rise to the challenge.
She did very well and almost got full stars, facing reptiles and bugs as she screamed her way around the trial. It's now day three with a terrified Dean McCullough up next to face a public voted trial.
But what are the Bushtucker Trial rules, and what happens if someone refuses to take part? What happens if someone quits the trial during or at the start of it, shouting the famous words "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here"?
If a contestant refuses to do the trial, which they can while this is very rare, then it's up to the person who received the next highest amount of votes by the public to do it. There have been occasions over the years where stars have refused to take part, whether through fear or from having already done so many.
Of course there's occasions where celebrities are ruled out from the vote on medical grounds, if they have a medical condition that means it isn't appropriate for them to take part in a certain challenge. But for those who do head down to the trial clearing to join Ant and Dec, they still have the opportunity to pull out.
The hosts always say during the introduction of each trial that the star does not have to attempt the trial and can rule themselves out from the start, despite having already headed down there. The star would simply withdraw and then return to camp empty handed.
For those celebrities who do want to give the trial a go but end up shouting the famous words after it has started, there are two things that can happen in the fallout. No one will be able to do the trial afterwards despite the time and effort put in by the crew to create them.
If the star that has cut the trial short has not secured any stars beforehand, they leave back to camp empty handed. Those contestants who do win an amount of stars before they shout the words out do get to take the won stars back, despite ending the trial.
