I'm A Celeb star Melvin Odoom's love life, very famous sister and radio co-star shock
Radio 1 DJ Melvin Odoom is tipped to go far in the jungle - but who will be waiting to hug him when he leaves?
by Matt Roper · The MirrorHe's one of two Radio 1 hosts who will be battling it out to be crowned King or Queen of the jungle.
But if he does pick up the coveted title, who will be standing at the end of the rope bridge to meet him?
Melvin Odoom, who co-hosts the mid-morning radio show, is facing his biggest challenge yet as this year’s ITV show kicks off tonight with a group of intrepid celebs, which includes fellow DJ Dean McCollough.
But Melvin might be in for a shock - he has admitted he’s scared of pretty much everything, especially bugs.
"I'm afraid of everything but heights. I don't mind heights, years ago I went in a Red Bull aeroplane and they looped around, it was like G-force.
If I had to do anything, like jumping out of the plane, I don't think I'd mind that much, it's the least thing I'd be a afraid of.
"It would be scary, but anything else, I hate insects, I hate bugs."
Melvin has revealed he is single at the moment and looking for love - so there won’t be a romantic scene at the end if he makes it to the final two contestants.
But Melvin has lots of celebrity friends, including former I’m A Celebrity contestant, comedian Babatunde Aleshe, who has tipped him to win the 2024 edition of the show.
He said: “I’ve known Melvin for ages, I think that he’s going to light up the place with his personality.
“So at the beginning I’m saying maybe Melvin, but we’ll see, you never know. When you’re in there, it’s different. When you’re hungry, you might say the wrong thing, so let’s just wait.”
Melvin is also close to his sister, Yonah Odoom, who has become a familiar face on TV herself in some of television's biggest soaps over the years.
She has had roles in Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and The Windsors, as well as in the 2018 action-drama series, Bulletproof.
Melvin, who also presented The Xtra Factor in 2015 before competing in the 14th series of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing in 2016, is also close friends with his Radio 1 co-host Charlie Hedges.
In 2002, he said has planning on being an “amazing uncle” to Charlie’s unborn baby after she shocked him by revealed on air that she was expecting.
“I’ve known her for 15 years, she’s going to be an incredible mum,” he said.
And he joked he would be a “cheap uncle” since he likes to be frugal with his millions.
He said: 'I'm going to be a very cheap uncle, I'm going to be there whenever you need me for anything, I'll save as much money as possible on Christmas and birthday presents.”
