The popular presenter, 44, looked delighted with life when the series kicked off on Sunday as he got to know his fellow campers, including Coleen Rooney and GK Barry.

Of course, he already knows fellow Radio DJ, Dean McCullough, who is also eyeing up the King of the Jungle crown. So, as we wait to see how Melvin fares among the creepy crawlies - and his fellow campmates - here's the lowdown on his life off-camera.

Love life

Melvin has always been incredibly private about his romantic life but at present, it's believed the DJ is currently single. In a recent YouTube interview, he said: "Dating is hard. For me, don't shut yourself off from anything because your potential partner could be anywhere. You have to chill and go with the flow, you can't control love."

It remains to be seen who will meet Melvin on the rope bridge when his time on I'm A Celebrity is up, but the presenter does have plenty of friends. Fellow I'm A Celeb star, Babatunde Aleshe, praised his pal, even tipping him to win the series, telling us: “I’ve known Melvin for ages, I think that he’s going to light up the place with his personality." Of course, Melvin could also be greeted in Australia by his famous sister...

Famous sister

Melvin is close to his sister, Yonah Odoom, who has become a familiar face on TV herself in some of television's biggest soaps over the years.

She has had roles in Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and The Windsors, as well as in the 2018 action-drama series, Bulletproof. talking about how much he would miss his sibling while on I'm A Celeb, he told the Mirror: “I was thinking, ‘Who would I most want to speak to (whilst in camp)?’ and I started tearing up thinking about my sister and being far away from her. She is the best person in the world. I really hope there is a character in the camp who is like my sister.”

Gym goal to look like JLS star

Ahead of his stint on I'm A Celebrity, Melvin has been hitting the gym and dieting to look good in the jungle shower. The BBC Radio 1 presenter scrapped sugar from his diet and has been intermittent fasting to prepare himself for the paltry portions in the jungle in the coming weeks.

When he was officially announced to be appearing on I'm A Celeb, Melvin said he hopes to look as good as his JLS singer pal Marvin Humes, 39, - who had fans swooning during shower scenes on last year's show. Speaking ahead of his jungle debut, Melvin told The Sun: "I've got to work a lot harder to look as good as Marvin. But yeah, I've been trying to do a bit more gym training."
