The cyclone is now barrelling northwest and is set to hit land on Vietnam next, a country popular with British holidaymakers. Flash floods across the Philippines destroyed homes and businesses, killing dozens of people and leaving others scrambling to find safety.
More than 560,000 villagers are now displaced, including many across the hard-hit central province of Cebu. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has declared a state of emergency today, following a dire meeting with disaster-response officials.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has declared a state of emergency on Thursday as Typhoon Kalmaegi has left at least 114 people dead and hundreds missing.
The worst of the flash floods has happened across the central provinces, including Cebu, and has caused people to drown. More than 560,000 people are homeless, and others are missing.
The tropical cyclone blew out of the archipelago on Wednesday into the South China Sea but Mr Ferdinand Marcos Jr is now assessing the damage amid the "state of national calamity".
He met disaster-response officials and says the government is now able to disburse emergency funds faster and prevent food hoarding and overpricing.
