Liam Payne has tragically died aged 31 - and his loyal fans are convinced his final song hinted at his heartbreaking struggles. The former One Direction star died on Wednesday after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Bueno Aires, Argentina.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5pm following reports of "an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol". Upon their arrival, they were informed a loud sound had been heard in the interior courtyard. They then discovered the body there.

In March, Liam released his solo Teardrops - saying on Instagram: "This song is born from many tears, not all mine. I hope you love it like I do and not too many of you can relate." Since hearing the devastating news about his death, fans have been taking to social media with claims the singer was trying to open up about his struggles through his music.

One fan said on X (formerly Twitter): "Liam Payne's recent lyrics, 'Teardrops are falling, Down your face again, cause I Don't know how to love you when! I am broken too' hit particularly hard. It's heartbreaking to think he was only 31!" Another fan said: "The last song Liam Payne released. Singing about being a broken man. Teardrops definitely fell on my face today..."

On one of his final Instagram posts, fans have been sending in their thoughts for his family during this difficult time, with one saying: "Rest in peace Liam, may your family and your son be blessed and comforted during this time." Another added: "Rest in peace. I can’t believe this."

Liam welcomed his son Bear with Cheryl in 2017, when he was aged 23. The couple parted ways the following year after a two-and-a-half year relationship.

TV presenter Dermot O’Leary has recalled Liam auditioning for The X Factor as a 14-year-old boy alongside future bandmates Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, as he paid tribute to the singer following his death.

O’Leary, who hosted The X Factor during both of Payne's appearances, shared a photograph of the pair on stage, captioning the Instagram post: "The worst news. I remember him as a 14-year-old turning up to audition on The X Factor, and blowing us away singing Sinatra. He just loved to sing.

"He was always a joy, had time for everyone, polite, grateful, and was always humble." Harry Styles' mum, Anne Twist, shared a photo of a broken heart emoji on her Instagram with the caption: "Just a boy..."
