When Chelsea transfer activity could step up for Enzo Maresca after £110m deal

by · football.london

Chelsea have been rather active in the transfer market as they look to give Enzo Maresca the best possible squad to attack the 2025/26 season. Having already signed Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr this summer, the Blues confirmed the arrival of Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday in a deal worth £55million.

Chelsea will pay out the same transfer figure very soon after also agreeing a £55million deal with Borussia Dortmund for Jamie Gittens. As it is Chelsea we're talking about, that is unlikely to be their last transfer incoming of the summer and more will no doubt follow.

New players coming in through the door at Stamford Bridge is undoubtedly what all supporters look out for in the summer months. Transfer outgoings are also going to be vital for Chelsea when it comes to reshaping Maresca's squad due to the sheer size of it.

One of those tipped to leave is Christopher Nkunku after failing to hit the heights in west London following his previous heroics for RB Leipzig. Djordje Petrovic is also on course to exit with a £21.5million move to Premier League newboys Sunderland in the offing.

Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson have both been linked with moves away ahead of the new season, while players such as Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile, Carney Chukwuemeka, Renato Veiga, Armando Broja, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, Raheem Sterling, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Marc Guiu could all be playing their football elsewhere come August. There may even be question marks over Trevoh Chalobah, although Maresca has confirmed that he does not want the England international to leave.

There has been a bit of movement in regards to Chelsea outgoings this summer as goalkeepers Marcus Bettinelli and Kepa Arrizabalaga have joined Manchester City and Arsenal respectively. Bashir Humphreys has also made his loan move to Burnley permanent following their promotion to the Premier League.

Chelsea exits may start to pick up once their participation at this summer's FIFA Club World Cup has come to a conclusion. The west London club have reached the quarter-finals of the competition and take on Brazilian side Palmeiras in the early hours of Saturday morning in the UK.

Prevail in Philadelphia and they will play the winner of Fluminense and Al-Hilal on Tuesday, July 8 in East Rutherford. The final will also take place in East Rutherford on Sunday, July 13, a match the Blues will be hoping to be involved in.

Chelsea currently have a number of players in their Club World Cup squad who could head for pastures new, including Dewsbury-Hall, Madueke, Jackson, Nkunku and Guiu to name a few. Although Chelsea have made moves to bring players in, such as Pedro who could make his Blues debut against Palmeiras, they will not want to lose players from their squad at the tournament and weaken it when there is a major trophy up for grabs.

For that reason, it could be once their time in the United States comes to an end when transfer exits really start to ramp up and go into overdrive. It is something that certainly needs to happen in order to give Maresca his perfect Chelsea squad for the 2025/26 season when they will once again be competing on four fronts.
