Arsenal transfer target Matheus Cunha slammed by Wolves boss after Chelsea defeat
by Kieran King · football.londonWolves boss Vitor Pereira has slammed Matheus Cunha following his side's 3-1 defeat against Chelsea on Monday and admitted: "I don't like his body language."
Cunha, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal and Manchester United among others this month, failed to impress for Wolves at Stamford Bridge. He has been excellent this season, scoring 10 times and adding four assists in 21 Premier League appearances, but his performance in West London was not his best.
And Pereira decided to hit out at his talisman in his post-match press conference and questioned his attitude throughout the game. "I had this conversation in the dressing room," a frustrated Pereira told reporters. "He can be frustrated because he wants to win, but everybody in the team wants to win.
"I don't like this body language. I want someone as a captain trying to help the team – running, suffering, fighting together. T"his is something I can understand.
"Next time, I will not understand." Pereira's comments comes amid increased speculation around Cunha's future at Molineux.
It was reported earlier this month that the 25-year-old had agreed a new long-term contract with the West Midlands club. However, Fabrizio Romano claimed on Tuesday that his situation is 'one to watch' before the end of the month.
He hasn't 'formally signed' his new deal and clubs, including Arsenal, are showing interest in him. The forward, who initially joined Wolves on loan from Atletico Madrid in January 2023 before making the move permanent for £35million in the following summer, has two-and-a-half years left on his contract.
He has 26 goals in 78 appearances across all competitions during his time at Wolves. Last month, Pereira hailed Cunha after he scored and grabbed an assist in their 2-0 win over Manchester United. "
I hope he stays with us for a long time, but I understand that as a special player - he will have opportunities for sure in his career," he said. "It is not only about his technique, but his personality.
"He is special because he can take the ball in a moment of pressure and make magic from nothing. It was magic what he did [against United]."
