Alexander Isak transfer boost as Arsenal prepare 'formal offer' for Newcastle United striker
by Mark Wakefield · football.londonArsenal have been handed a major boost in their hopes of signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with signing a new striker for the last 12 months, with rumours stretching as far back as the January transfer window last season. Isak is just one name that has been mentioned on the Arsenal rumour mill over the last few weeks, joining the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres as being potential targets this summer.
Various reports have claimed to suggest that Newcastle would demand a fee close to £150million to part ways with Isak in the summer. Others, though, have claimed that the Magpies will not entertain offers for their star striker at the end of the season.
According to Caught Offside, Arsenal are now the favourites to sign Isak after showing the "strongest" interest in the striker. The report claims that the Gunners are on the verge of submitting an offer to Newcastle to sign the 25-year-old when the transfer window opens in the summer.
It's not just Arsenal that apparently have an interest in signing Isak, though. The Gunners will reportedly face competition from Liverpool, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
There is no mention of the report of the fee that Arsenal will apparently try and offer Newcastle in an attempt to agree a deal to sign Isak. It has been stated, though, that the Magpies will try to keep the striker at St James' Park by offering a new contract with a salary increase.
Mikel Arteta has been forced to deal with several injury concerns throughout the season, particularly in the forward line. At present, Arsenal are without Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, all on the sidelines with their respective injuries.
