PSG boss Luis Enrique makes 'farmers league' joke after beating Arsenal in Champions League
by Mark Wakefield · football.londonParis Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique made a 'farmers league' quip after beating Arsenal in the Champions League.
The Gunners exited the competition after their 2-1 defeat (3-1 on aggregate) to PSG in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night.
Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi put the home side two goals in front at the Parc des Princes before Bukayo Saka scored what turned out to be a consolation goal for Arsenal.
It's not just Arsenal that PSG have knocked out of the Champions League this season. The French outfit beat Aston Villa in the quarter-final and Liverpool in the last-16, as well as securing a victory over Manchester City during the league phase of the tournament.
Enrique was speaking to TNT Sports when he was presented with this fact. The PSG boss went on to make a joke about the quality of Ligue 1 compared to the Premier League.
"The league of farmers, no? We are the league of farmers," Enrique told TNT Sports when asked about PSG's record against English teams in the Champions League this season.
"It’s nice. Now we are enjoying not only the results but also the compliments of everybody speaking about our team.
"We are a young team but the mentality and character, and also how we play football, I think is nice. I also have to congratulate my players because they are great."
Now that Arsenal are out of the Champions League, the full focus will be on the final three Premier League fixtures of the season.
The Gunners will face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday before taking on Newcastle United and Southampton, bringing their campaign to a close.
After that, the attention will then turn towards the summer transfer window where a host of players are already being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
