Ange Postecoglou gives four Tottenham injury news updates ahead of Everton clash

by · football.london

Ange Postecoglou has revealed there are a "couple" of Tottenham players sore from the midweek clash against Arsenal, but Ben Davies could be involved again as Spurs prepare to face Everton.

The results in the week pushed Spurs down to 14th in the Premier League table, further piling the pressure onto the manager as the injury crisis in defence continues to bite.

While Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are still out of action in the heart of the defence and Guglielmo Vicario is set to be out for a while yet, there is better news for the manager with Davies set to return to action in the coming days.

The Welsh defender has been linked with a move away from north London in the January transfer window with Leeds United reportedly interested in a move for the 31-year-old. However, the left-back - who can also feature in the heart of the defence - has been out of action since the beginning of December with a hamstring complaint.

That has meant a central pairing of Radu Dragusin and 18-year-old midfielder Archie Gray, with right-back Djed Spence deputising at left-back to good effect. While it hasn't been ideal, the fill-in candidates have impressed; but the return of another defender will be a welcome boost for Postecoglou.

"Couple still sore from midweek," Postecoglou told reporters during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Everton clash. "Looking to see how Brennan [Johnson] is, calf complaint, and [Yves Bissouma] is a bit sore.

"Ben Davies should be involved."

Tottenham will be looking to get back to winning ways against Everton, who sit two places below Spurs in the table. The Toffees, managed once again by David Moyes, are seven points behind Spurs with a game in hand and have not won a Premier League game since December 5th.

However, Postecoglou also confirmed that winger Timo Werner would be out for three-to-four weeks after suffering a hamstring tweak in the FA Cup clash against Tamworth.
