Arsenal look to have been handed a favourable pathway to the Champions League final after Liverpool's shock last-16 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The Premier League leaders entered their second leg at Anfield with a narrow advantage, but it was swiftly overturned by the French champions.

Inside the opening quarter of an hour, Ousmane Dembele cancelled out Harvey Elliot's late strike at the Parc des Princes with the tie remaining level for the next 108 minutes despite a barrage of Liverpool opportunities. Penalties were therefore needed to decide the winner with misses from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones proving costly.

Vitinha, Goncalo Ramos, Dembele and Desire Doue all scored for the visitors which saw them win the shoot-out 4-1. With Liverpool eliminated, many of the teams remaining in the competition will absolutely fancy their chances to win the whole thing.

Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Inter have all subsequently qualified for the quarter-finals and they will almost certainly be joined by Arsenal. The Gunners are 7-1 up from their last-16 tie with PSV and their place in the next round will be confirmed after the second leg on Wednesday evening.

With each teams pathway to the final having already been confirmed, a two-legged tie against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid is on the horizon. Beyond that, Arsenal would go on to face one of Club Brugge, PSG, Liverpool or Aston Villa.

The reigning champions being 2-1 up over their rivals makes it likely it will be them that face Arsenal. PSG are already through and are on track to play Unai Emery's side as they are 3-1 up from the first leg with Villa Park to host the second leg on Wednesday.

Having beaten both PSG and Villa this season, Arsenal will certainly fancy their chances in the semi-final if they can beat one of the Madrid's While that task up first is a huge one, Mikel Arteta's side could soon become favourites on their side of the draw with one of Barcelona or Bayern possibly meeting them in the final.
